I can't help it!

Is it wrong to laugh at your husbands failings? I just can't help it! Clark has a second grade education. Imagine my joy when he passes all his subjects at a 12th grade level in his G.E.D. prep class. He passed at a 12th grade level in all his subjects but 2. In science, he passed at college levels. Yay! I barely passed science in highschool.... In punctuation (now seriously don't think I'm evil for laughing) he passed at a 3rd grade level! Of all the years of schooling he missed, is he going to study up on algebra, history, reading, language, social studies, or science?!? No! (seriously can't stop laughing) He gets to study apostrophes, periods, and exclamation points! Other than that he really did AMAZING! I just have to laugh that he did SO WELL on all the hard stuff and so HORRIBLE on the easiest!

Second Job

I started a second job a few weeks back. I do office work for The Cackle Hatchery. I get to listen to baby chicks all morning and I'm slowly learning the chicken lingo. Here is the creepiest chicken we sell. It's called a Turken and it is bald on its neck and under its wings. This photo doesn't do it justice. You can see veins popping out in real life.

Nickname

Some of you, okay, many of you call me Smels (at least that's how I write it. I guess it could be written as Smells, but...we'll just ignore that) Well, imagine my surprise when my niece walked in the room yesterday and addressed me as Smels. I responded and she was confused and told me she wasn't talking to me. I guess she calls her sister Valerie "Smells" as a nickname. Weird.

As You Like It

Good movie. Here's my favorite lines: JAQUES. I have neither the scholar's melancholy, which is emulation; nor the musician's, which is fantastical; nor the courtier's, which is proud; nor the soldier's, which is ambitious; nor the lawyer's, which is politic; nor the lady's, which is nice; nor the lover's, which is all these: but it is a melancholy of mine own, compounded of many simples, extracted from many objects: and, indeed, the sundry contemplation of my travels; in which my often rumination wraps me in a most humorous sadness. ROSALIND. A traveller! By my faith, you have great reason to be sad: I fear you have sold your own lands to see other men's; then to have seen much and to have nothing is to have rich eyes and poor hands. JAQUES. Yes, I have gained my experience. ROSALIND. And your experience makes you sad: I had rather have a fool to make me merry than experience to make me sad; and to travel for it too.

Boycotts

My SIL and I had an interesting :) conversation the other day about HBO. She sent me a link to this article and I thought I'd share because it's good. The article can be found at http://newsroom.lds.org/ldsnewsroom/eng/commentary/the-publicity-dilemma Highlights include: "Certainly Church members are offended when their most sacred practices are misrepresented or presented without context or understanding. Last week some Church members began e-mail chains calling for cancellations of subscriptions to AOL, which, like HBO, is owned by Tim Warner. Certainly such a boycott by hundreds of thousands of computer-savvy Latter-day Saints could have an economic impact on the company. Individual Latter-day Saints have the right to take such actions if they choose. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as an institution does not call for boycotts. Such a step would simply generate the kind of controversy that the media loves and in the end would increase audiences for the series. As Elder M. Russell Ballard and Elder Robert D. Hales of the Council of the Twelve Apostles have both said recently, when expressing themselves in the public arena, Latter-day Saints should conduct themselves with dignity and thoughtfulness. Not only is this the model that Jesus Christ taught and demonstrated in his own life, but it also reflects the reality of the strength and maturity of Church members today. As someone recently said, “This isn’t 1830, and there aren’t just six of us anymore.” In other words, with a global membership of thirteen and a half million there is no need to feel defensive when the Church is moving forward so rapidly. The Church’s strength is in its faithful members in 170-plus countries, and there is no evidence that extreme misrepresentations in the media that appeal only to a narrow audience have any long-term negative effect on the Church."

I saw my first armadillo! It was waddling across the highway and I slowed down almost to a stop so I wouldn't hit it and couldn't help but laugh as it tried to run off the road!
