This semester I decided to double up on classes. I am sooooo glad that is over! (Almost) Never again. Now that I am able to breath again, I thought I'd share some funny moments of the semester. Funny moment #1: My teacher tried to look up "nuque" (nape) on google images and got distracted during the middle and left out the "qu", spelling "nue" (naked). After clicking "search" she continued talking, not bothering to look at the screen. Needless to say for a split second she probably thought whatever she was saying was interesting because the class went into complete silence. I think we were all a little too shocked by the images on the screen to say anything. Whoops! Funny moment #2: One of my teachers doesn't speak English very well at all. She wanted to make sure we understood the word "gratte-ciel" and so she looked at the footnote to read the word in English, like I said, she doesn't know English very well, she had to look it up herself. The word that came out of her mouth was "sky crapper". She continued with her lecture and I'm sure she had no idea why the entire class was silently shaking in their seats. Bad uncontrollable case of the giggles. It wasn't really THAT funny but when one person can't control their laughter in an awkwardly silent class... well... it was all downhill from there. In case any of you are slow, she meant to say "skyscraper". Funny moment #3: I'm not sure that this one is that funny, more like annoying. I had a few hours to kill so I put my headphones in my phone and sat out enjoying the sunshine talking to my friend Tera. A guy walks up to me, literally, right in my face, stops, and stares at me. I tell Tera to hang on and I free up one ear and say "hi." He apologizes for interrupting (he thought I was listening to music) and said that he just wanted to tell me he was having an awesome day and that nothing was going to get in his way. Nothing could change his mind. He went on for about 30 seconds on how happy he was. I really wanted to say "can you just get to the point!?" because I figured he was trying to sell me "Jesus". There are a lot of those on campus. Then he tells me about his weekend for about a minute and a half, and a bunch of other things I won't bore you with, because I'm bored out of my mind thinking about all this useless information he shared with me. Then he politely says, "I'll let you get back to your phone call, because I'm really considerate like that. (5 minutes too late for being considerate) I'm so excited for this weekend, have a great day!" Tera got more of a kick out of it than I did. I felt bad for the guy, but it was seriously weird....
The french may not have the Happily Ever After thing down, but that's what makes their stories (and music) so beautiful. Thank you Victor Hugo for inspiring my two absolute favorite musicals of all time!
This is what I listened to on repeat while taking a math quiz. And yes, I got 100%! Here's a video of the song with subtitles for anyone who reads this blog that I rarely get on. Enjoy!
Yesterday I read an excerpt from a novel byAnnie Ernaux. The entire book is random journal entries about common day things. It was both interesting and funny. I'm not good with words like she is, nor am I going to write this in french, but I thought I'd give it a try and share my thoughts on Personality and Drivers. Everyone's personality is reflected in everything they do. The same goes for driving. You have your competitive people. These are the people that drive 35mph in a 55mph zone. When you pull into the left lane they quickly speed up so you can't pass and within seconds they are going 70mph right along with you. Then when they come upon another car in the left hand lane they'll slow down to their speed, blocking you in, and laughing out loud to themselves at your failed attempt to pass. Next we have our impatient people. These are the people that weave in and out of traffic and have no concept of personal space. They are in a hurry whether they have somewhere to be or not. Then there are those people that are clingy. They always feel a need for human companionship and can't do anything alone. On the highway you might mistake them for an impatient driver. Why? Because these are the drivers that tailgate you when you are the only two cars on the road!! So you slow down. Hoping to piss them off enough to go around you. So they slow down. All this really does is piss YOU off, so you give up and quickly speed up. Yep. Still behind you. When you stop at a light, you look behind you to see if they are going to turn but unfortunately they've pulled in so close to you that you can't even see their headlights. After you begin driving again, as luck would have it, another car pulls onto the road and the clingy driver rushes to be near someone new. Good riddance! Your obedient people are drivers that always follow the rules. Yep. When the light turns yellow, they slow down, nearly causing an accident because the three cars behind themALL could have made the light. Cautious drivers are the ones that never turn right on a red. They sit. And wait. And makeEVERYONEwait. There are also those drivers that sit back and enjoy the ride. Nope. Not the cars with their windows down and their music turned up. Those are the smokers. They'd have to be. Who in their right mind drives with the windows open in Arizona? It's either too hot or too cold. Yes, our winters here are cold. When you are used to 115, anything below 80 is cold. No, these are the drivers that constantly swerve in their lanes because they can't stop looking out the window to see the view. Then, if you're a combination driver (like my dad) where you like to enjoy the rideANDyou're impatient, other drivers beware! Or better yet, passengers beware! That makes for oneSCARYride! (No offense dad) Then you have your people that are technologically challenged. These cars always drive slow. These are the drivers you think are abusive because you see the passenger repeatedly hitting the driver. As you pass them you see the driver's face glued to his GPS (always a guy) while the passenger is yelling and hitting him (always a girl). This is what I get to sit an contemplate every morning as I navigate the 101. Did I miss anyone? Please share!
